I taught myself cabling and knit a snowflake from the Mid-December Dishcloth Kal for my first cable project I think it looks pretty nice I cant wait to do more cabling;)

No I never have I always have picked the most difficult my first knitting project was a booga bag my second project was a pair of longies I used the wooly wonder perfection pants pattern you can see a picture in my projects in ravelry of my youngest wearing the longies they were made from Schaeffer Ann Mr.funny It was the finest knitting I felt I ever did.
