I found this tutorial on Grumperina's Blog Very good description here
Knitting Help Video's has a page and at the bottom under
Decorative Stitches there are video's for
Crossing Cables with a Cable Needle and (Crossing Cables without a cable needle)
If you are doing cabling with 3 or more stitches using a cable needle would be best as the stitches can get pretty tight when twisting them back onto your needle as done when not using a cable needle.
