San Francisco Treat:)

Dolores and I had such a great time with Alison, Jasmin, Gigi, and Rachel. Meeting and getting to know other knitters is so much fun and it made the trip all the more special. Alison was wearing her "Peace Of My Mind Shawl" from her book "Wrapped In Comfort". She was knitting her pattern, "Michelle's Shawl" out of Seasilk in a lovely blue/green colorway. Rachel was knitting the "Febuary Lady Sweater" in Noro Cash Iroha in a lovely gray/blue and I was knitting on Grace's "Easy Flame Lace Scarf" in Malabrigo color Geranio which is in route to her as we speak. Dolores was knitting a "Ballband Dishcloth" from "Mason Dixon" in "Summer Splash" sugar n cream. Jasmin was knitting on her sock. "Pattern
Houdini Socks by Cat Bordhi" in rainbowy. Gigi was knitting a sock in "Slip Stitch Cable Pattern" from Little Box of Socks

October 3rd Headed for San Francisco

Dolores and I got in the car and headed out at 8am friday October 3rd.Dolores drove and we used my GPS system Magellan which she named magella since it had a women's voice:)I knit on Graces scarf so I wouldn't be a total back seat driver.lol
We were in awe when we went threw the toll to head over the San Francisco -Oakland
Bay Bridge. It took us 7.5 hours to get to Santa Rosa and our hotel. We put our stuff away and headed for the mall 4 blocks away for some panda express:)Then we went back to our room and finished knitting our cupcake dishcloths before going to sleep. The hotel I booked our room at was 5 minutes from Copperfield's Bookstore. We got up ate our continental breakfast and got ready for the book signing.Dolores and I arrived at the bookstore at 11am since the book signing wasn't till 3pm I collected the 2 books I had prepaid for and the tickets for The Yarn Harlot book signing then we just browsed.I ran into some other early comers who invited us to join them for lunch Alison,no-blog-Rachel, and the Knitmore Girls Jasmin and mom Gigi.I will post some more of the story tomorrow.

Had A Bad Day?

I had to go to the dentist today to finish my root canal. I wasnt numbed up enough so when he hit the nerve my legs flew up in the air and I screamed about 10 obscene words before I could stop myself.Luckily I had a mouth full of guaze so that muffled some of the worst of them, within seconds I was sweaty from the bottom of my feet to my head from the shock of it.The receptionist and person who bills you handed me a bill for thousands of dollars as I was leaving, she told me it was because I have had an emergency root canal and 2 porcelain crowns put in.I felt like someone whacked me upside the head with a club. I exsplained I couldnt possibly owe that much and she treated me like I was stupid and told me if it gets adjusted I will have a credit this as she has me signing a bill for the whole amount.I drove home shaky and shocked.I always try to find a rainbow in any bad day so after getting the girls in bed and this being my night off from work I made a cup of chamomile tea and took a pain killer and sat down to read one of my favorite blogs. The Yarn Harlot who had a shocking day herself yesterday on the subway, she was told very rudely she was crocheting not knitting by a woman.Stephanie asked on her blog what would you have said as a civil clever come back?

There is a shirt you can purchase threw cafe press that would be perfect to wear for just one of those people it says:

1.Yes,Iam knitting.
2.No,not crocheting.
3.No it doesnt require alot of patience.
4.Yes,you could do it.Really want to learn?
5.Yes,I know you can buy sweaters, socks, etc. For not much money.
What's the fun in that?
6.Yes,I'm sure your grandmother did knit for you.Thats nice.
7.Well,yes,it does require some concentration, depending on the pattern. So could you shut up and let me knit now? Thanks!
Of course Iam always shocked by rude people to shocked to say something clever to put them in their place because I dont myself want to be rude, but if I had worn this shirt I would have pointed to it and then picked my jaw up off the ground and smiled at the woman addressing me so rudely;)

Here is a picture of a friend wearing one of these clever shirts:)

Knotty Knitter Road Trip To See The Yarn Harlot In L.A.;)

Diane had reserved 4 spots for the event and so Diane ,Jo, Carol, and I went to see the Yarn Harlot Speak at the Los Angeles Library Ellen Bloom Introduced her. The theme of her talk was all about representing the culture of knitters and all the embarrassments and terminal stereotypes that still haunt it
The Yarn Harlot has described the 'group' called CHOKE (Cultural humiliation of knitters everywhere)
. She signed books afterwards we were among the first 12 people to show up so we got front row seats for the event pretty sweet as there were 2 lines all the way out and down the halls both directions.Stephanie Mcphee is delightfully witty and we all knit as we listened to her speak.I was knitting on Lizets socks and Jo was working up something she hadnt decided what it would be yet and Diane and Carol were working on i-cord for felted bags Diane brought a hat she knitted to donate to charity as they were collected them at the event.I got to ask the yarn harlot questions which were did she cloth diaper her children and did she knit soakers for them to wear the answer was yes pretty kewl;)I told Lizet her socks would get to go on the adventure and I would knit on them and I got a picture taken with Stephanie where she held lizets socks so they are extra special socks now.lol Yarn Harlot
